OpenOffice.org is an open-source, multiplatform and multilingual office suite comparable with MS Office.

It is compatible with all other major office suites and is free to download, use, and distribute. It was previously known as StarOffice before it became an open-source project. OpenOffice comes with OpenWriter - a word processor, OpenCalc - a spreadsheet and OpenImpress - a presentational package.

Well, I'm on 3.0. Always keen on an update!

PS I too use it as my sole office suite. No complaints. Only praise.

"comparable with MS Office".

Yikes, don't compare features. It would be embarrassing for the Open Source community.

I got 3.0 installed on my laptop, not bad I prefer Office 2k7 but my laptop only came with a trail version and since I already have Office 2k7 on my main machine (and already have my 2k7 Home and Student Edition installed on 3 other machine - I have about 5 machines at home) I decided it be easier (and cheaper) just to use OpenOffice.org for the laptop

technically it can be installed on as much as you want... it will start asking for activation after 7 installs within 6 months .

OpenOffice will only replace my main Office Suite (2k7) if its features are actually comparable to Office 2007 and has a ribbon type interface. At the moment, it's a joke (though I do use it on ubuntu) and its features are comparable... to Office 95 lol. Damn the Open Source community is behind. Like seriously... 3.01 RC JUST GOT grammar checking... like WTF!

The stupid ribbon is the reason why I don't use O2k7. Oh, plus it's slower, and you have to pay for it. And... You get the idea.

OO all the way
