Thanks for the update. Although, I am a bit disappointed that this version of Fx still hasn't fixed the about:blank CCS and the resource:// holes.

Opera, on the other hand, almost always has zero unpatched vulnerabilities.

Just goes out to show that being open source and community driven doesn't always mean fast bug fixes.

Although FF is probably more secure than IE, but honestly, the main reason I use FF over other browsers is because of the plethora of plugins available, and they are easy to install and updated. I don't really care if other browsers renders .5 seconds faster or if it's more secure or compliant with whatever web standards out there. With FF, there's always a great plugin to do what I want within the browser.

The only thing I'm missing is the speech feature in the window's version of Opera. I still haven't found a good speech plugin in FF, so I keep opera for that feature alone.

careful with mentioning Opera or the Firefox fanboys will take it as a personal insult and insult your mothers again.
they dont wanna hear that another browser could be better or have something that the "greatest browser on the planet" doesnt have.

Using Opera here too but i wont use Alpha versions though.

I'm using Iceweasel (slightly stripped down version of FF), on Linux Zenwalk 4.8. Definitely like that version of FF, if I can call it that. Otherwise, just installed Opera 9.24 on it. Easily already blowing Iceweasel away.

Opera on Windows, on the other hand, is just to herky jerky weird, for me anymore, and I was a dedicated Opera user since version 5 days. Now use mostly K-Meleon and Seamonky, in Windows. Not saying they're the greatest either. Just my choice.

Just flat out can't stand FF on Windows though. Partially due to all the nauseating fanboyism that surrounds it and partially due to the fact that it IS NOT the greatest browser out there. Especailly in Windows!

But, it is good to know that they jam on doing updates for it! Almost unfortuante for FF though, because it has become so popular, that it needs to be patched even more, or as much as IE.

I will *never* understand why someone would say they used Firefox and then switched to IE or Opera.

Obviously you weren't using Firefox to its full potential, as neither Opera or IE can do what Firefox does.

It's like saying you had a CAR once, but now you have a SOFA, and you're never going back! Well, good for you. I guess all you did in your car was SIT in it. But some of us like a little more functionality.

So if all you did was a little browsing, then yeah, I guess Opera and IE are kinda like Firefox. But if you really wanted to "take back the web" as their motto says, then Firefox is your only choice.

Adblock + NoScript + del.icio.us + Stumble, etc, etc, etc. I can usually get by with 5 or less extensions, but there are some who use dozens of extensions. I can only use something like IE or Opera for just a few minutes before going nuts because of the lack of features I've become so use to. Firefox has spoiled me.

To me, Firefox is the only choice. There is nothing else like it. You can't switch from something that has no equal. Opera has it's place on low end devices and the Wii. Maybe some day it can compete with Firefox on the PC.

Am I a Firefox fanboy? I'd have to say yes. Only because it's so easy to be one. Every browser sucked in one way or another for the longest time, especially Internet Explorer. When Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox came along, everything changed.

At least you're honest.

Opera 9.23 with 20 tabs open and using 30mb ram. tell me firefox can do that instead of using like 80-90mb ram. oh you cant huh hmm
also i know this topic is about firefox but could someone explain to me why thunderbird, sitting idle can use upwards of 135mb ram?

the mozilla products have serious memory leaks that really need to be addressed and fixed. Opera is WAY better on memory usage.

Opera can have added functionality with UserJS files much like Firefox's addon system too. so thats not a plus for firefox since opera is pretty equal there. the UI of Opera is COMPLETELY customizable, can you say the same of Firefox? oh you cant hmmm

plus Firefox has ripped off a bunch of Operas functions cause they saw them and thought hey htats neat lets copy it. the whole SpeedDial thing, yeah Opera had it first. the session saving thing, im not sure if Firefox had the extension first but Operas worked flawlessly before Firefox's worked flawlessly.

If you could middle click bookmarks to open in a new tab, I would switch to opera for daily use. But still use firefox for dev.

Most of the computers now have at least 1 GB of ram. 60 mb differance is nothing compared to that. Of course good programming exercise demands better and obviously firefox has memory issues but you know it does not make a hell of a difference.

I use firefox because I am damn used to it, for me opera and firefox are both very decent browsers. It is just a matter of taste.

I like FF but its been getting so slow with every new version. And I dont have a ton of plugins or anything like that. Only plug that i use is the roboform.

I hate that it takes forever to load and how every other time it does the old "Restore session or start new session" thing even when it shuts down correctly.

FF is still my fav until i find something better. Opera was great at the start but Im not sold on the new versions just yet.

i use both but i use firefox more because i can change it to however i want, with opera it is of course a good browser just cant change a few things but that dont really matter and firefox is not getting slower you probably have too many old and useless plugins loaded with it like quicktime and real alternatives.i dont use those things unless i need to.i keep all updated.before we never really had a choice of browsers but now we have many to choose from but in a sense opera is the better browser if you have a really old system but on a new one both will do just fine.
#11.1 john0877 on 19 Oct 2007 - 18:41
what things are you not able to change in Opera? if its UI related, the UI is basically completely customizable.
