Pidgin (formerly Gaim) is a multi-protocol instant messaging (IM) client for Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows. It is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, and Zephyr networks. Gaim users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger, talking to a friend on Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time. Pidgin supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer, away messages, and typing notification. It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. A few popular features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle; and plugins, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, iconify on away, spell checking, tabbed conversations, and more. Pidgin runs on a number of platforms, including Windows, Linux, and Qtopia (Sharp Zaurus and iPaq).

This isn't on the pidgin website nor do the sourceforge links work (infinite redirects). According to the pidgin website 2.1.0 is only 62% done?

^^ I see I was already beat.
#3 Jexel on 29 Jul 2007 - 08:28
i guess they didn't want to delay it further. The rest of the tickets will probably be added to 2.1.1

I hate such posts. Slower than MSN in what way? Memory usage at 150MB? What were you doing at that time? Posts like that may cause people to not download this software, because they actually believe you to be a representative of the crowd. You need to give the details if it is supposed to help anyone.

I'm running Pidgin all day long at work, signed in to the gTalk and MSN protocols, right now it uses 12MB when docked to the side of the screen. It's snappy and much less cluttered than MSN Messenger.

#5.1 Mieky242 on 29 Jul 2007 - 13:18

#6 JiveMasterT on 29 Jul 2007 - 14:54
I don't think this has been released.

Heck, even the screenshots are from beta 7.

Way to jump the gun
(1 reply) #8 ensiform on 29 Jul 2007 - 15:46
The poster did not jump the gun, it is out. 2.1.0 is no longer on the roadmap:

http://developer.pidgin.im/roadmap

It takes time to update all the servers and the pages.

Mozilla releases Firefox updates without updating the home page for a few days as well.
#8.1 th3rEsa on 29 Jul 2007 - 16:55
Firefox is not "released" until the home page tells so!

It is on the webservers yet, but they are filled to provide enough mirrors before the release is published...

Thanks. Seeing that tab not be the entire width of the window is very promising. I'll give this a whirl when the exe's are out.

Beaten to it. Oh well, another couldn't hurt.

None of the download links work, it's not listed anywhere on their site... maybe they pulled it? Not really a release!

#15.1 Jexel on 30 Jul 2007 - 03:07
not everybody chooses an im client based on the icon...

Cool, can't wait for the Portable Edition.

Is the reason there isn't a native Mac OS X version because Adium is largely based on Pidgin? You can build from source, but there aren't any disk images.
