Thanks to Neowin user Vask for the heads up.
Updated 6:33P.M. -6 GMT, fixed version number. Sorry about the confusion guys!

sigh? I'm hoping to d/l it asap! So far, I've been disappointed with RC b/c it ****s up media center. Hopefully this will fix it.
Lol
Does anyone know if you can slipstream SP2 into an SP1 retail install disc? And if so, how?

nLite is for XP. You need vLite for Vista.
http://www.nliteos.com/
vLite, not nLite
The users have used vLite for customizing the Vista installation now are not able to install the SP2:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968279/
SYMPTOMS: When you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2), you receive the following error message: Service Pack installation cannot continue. One or more system components that the service pack requires are missing.
CAUSE: This problem occurs because system components that are required to install Windows Vista SP2 are not present on your computer.
However, a common reason for this problem is that the vLite software was used to customize the Windows Vista installation and some required system components were removed.

Good advice. I've been telling people not to use vLite for this exact reason.
I dunno
SP2 contains everything from SP1.
Are there any prerequisites for SP2?
You must have Windows Vista with SP1 or Windows Server 2008 installed on your computer before installing Service Pack 2. (Windows Server 2008 shipped with Service Pack 1 included.)

Dude rolls by 4! lol, +1 on original statement.
It's not really much of a risk if you just check that what you've downloaded has the correct hash. MD5, CRC32 and SHA-1 hashes for the SP2 installers are easy to find. Just check the hash once you've downloaded it, and you'll be *perfectly* safe from viruses.
And you know that those md5/crc32/sha-1 valus were calculated from theoriginal MS release and not a doctored leak how?
MS annoyingly don't release hashes to stop people downloading elsewhere.
Also, it appears to be Neowin Server Crash day as well.

Luckily I'm not the only one...
That will be service pack 6
Vista won't get that far lol. Win7 is the future now
Right on cue...
Hmmm. That's actually really intriguing. I might have to check it out.
Er and minus many many other things.
Because XP SP1 and earlier was a complete and utter joke.
What's your email address?
yeah, no dice
Thanks
Well I guess it's worth it for those still on Vista for a while.
Maybe it is 6006
When you get to the Install button and it says you can't use your computer during install.
Can you actually use it? Or does it some how block it?

The service pack can't update the component that are being use so there would be a high chance the update won't complete and possibly break windows stability afterward.
+100 Windows 7 x64 RTM (when it happens!
I think out of all the Vista feedback I've ever heard, that is the most truest comment I've ever heard. Sadly, it's right
This is exactly right. Well... then Apple took advantage of that and beat Vista to death.
EDIT: Oh, right, and look at the comment below this one. Yep.

Wrong thread. LoL
How is it the wrong thread? He's commenting on Outlook performance after the installation of SP2...
Sounds to me like he is commenting on the Outlook performance increase from Office 2007 SP2.

I Would assume in the next few weeks.
did the service pack remove your superfetch data like sp1 did?
Vista SP2 seems a bit damp to me, I've already got the hotfixes + winSearch4. I don't have blu-ray and none of my devices support this Bluetooth mode so there isn't much desire for me to rush and download it. My Vista system is stable enough on SP1

You're never going to see another XP SP2. The only reason it was such a huge deal is because XP before that was a huge piece of ****. It still is in many ways.
If I were you, I'd install SP2 - it has improved performance and other background security improvements.

Thanks.
the only thing that have been added to MSDN is Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 Beta (x86) - DVD (English) (and other version/language X64 etc) yesterday : 28/04/09. Maybe a mistake ? don't undertsand why they wanted to release a splitstream version of Vista with the beta SP2 yesterday, while the lastest release of SP2 was an RC.

It looks like the final release of Vista SP2 will be available to the public (meaning RTW; release to web at Microsoft Update/Windows Update) at the end of May.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd335035.aspx
SP2 contains changes that are focused on addressing specific reliability, performance, and compatibility issues, supporting new types of hardware, and adding support for several emerging standards. SP2 also continues to improve upon the IT administration experience. SP2 is not intended to be a vehicle for releasing new features; however, some existing components do gain slightly enhanced functionality in SP2.
Im gonna start a thread

Why do they only give it to TechNet and MSDN subscriber ? It is not beta software after all !
They only do that to frustrate their customers (as usual).
Hopefully, the new Spanish discs will appear soon.

I now see at least one Vista SP2 RTM download on both the MSDN Subscriber Downloads & MS Technet Subscriber Downloads pages as I've just checked myself; posted April 30.
All you have to do is is start regedit, navigate to this registry value below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\vLite
Then delete the entire vLite key from the registry. When you do this it should allow for the service pack to continue to install.
