Blockbuster is hoping to expand the reach of its own OnDemand service with the announcement that the service will be extended to all broadband connected TiVo boxes sometime in the second half of the year. Blockbuster's service will join the likes of Amazon, Netflix, CinemaNow, and Jaman on the much loved line of DVR boxes. In return for the added reach of the OnDemand service, TiVo will gain another foothold in retail distribution through the Blockbuster brick and mortar locations.

When the service finally hits TiVo boxes later this year, Blockbuster promises to have up to 10,000 titles available for rental. Each rental will run you $3.99 (U.S.), which will give you the standard 24 hour window to view the film as often as you'd like.

Since Roku has been adding other services to their box (well, just Netflix and Amazon so far), I wonder if they will be adding Blockbuster as well.

Tivo tried to make it in canada, they wernt too successful as far as i can tell.

i know for sure that Tivo is popular in the U.S. but how popular is it? is it a common household item?

Not really... most of the content providers have their own dvr set top boxes. Comcast has Motorola make their boxes and I'm not sure whom DirecTV has make their boxes.
I think for TiVo their money would be in licensing the software not necessarily the hardware. They've already done this with Comcast in some areas.
