Update: Users can now download Internet Explorer 8 starting from today hereAs Neowin mentioned earlier, Microsoft today announced the availability of Windows Internet Explorer 8, the new Web browser that offers the best solution for how people use the Web today. It can be downloaded in 25 languages here starting at noon EDT on March 19.
As a side note, this release is not available for the current Windows 7 beta users and is only available for previous versions of Windows.
Keep an eye on this space for more info as the MIX09 Day 2 Keynote by Dean Hachamovitch, General Manager of Internet Explorer team, kicks off tomorrow

I don't think it will be a problem for me at all really. I've been a fan of fx for years, but lately i am just tired of it.

any idea what time that would be for those that are not in America aka England ? lol
12:00 in EDT is 16:00 / 4:00 pm in the UK.
At the moment, at least.. It's extra tricky now that US has moved on to daylight saving times, but Europe still hasn't.
Ah, but most of the United States are on daylight savings time now, so EST-5 became EDT-4. (Just like my zone, is MDT-6 instead of the usual MST-7).
Of course, they'd still need to prepare servers like this for those who don't want to, don't know how to, or can't, run BitTorrent, but imagine the massive amounts of users that would now be able to get it early on without stressing their servers.
Thanks for the post will be downloading soon as EDT arrives what ever that is.
I feel the most major update here was to CSS 2 support, but that's more something that applies to easening the web development in the future, not a powerful end user feature. Hmm, otherwise, it had some speed improvements too, but nothing massive and it can still be debated if competitors aren't faster. Then there's the stuff like web clips etc, but I'd certainly not jump up and down for that stuff.
Figures it gets released while we're eating supper. lol

no, IE8 in win7 is special it doesnt follow IE8 build numbers for XP/Vista/2003. You 1st see it lost its RC1 status in about screen in build 7048.
Sorry for being negative but unfortunately in this situation the truth IS negative.
Edit: no it's not.
huh? IE8 has been in the works for how long now, had a couple public beta releases, a RTM announcement a little ago and this is all the sudden out of no where?
I found it slower that FF and pages just seemed to crash at random.
Besides, with FF addons there is no question which is better. Ad-Blocker, download assistant, Gmail checker, script blocker etc. What has IE got to match that?

http://www.ie7pro.com/ = Ad blocker, download manager and more.
As for slower than Firefox, is your Firefox 3.0 or 3.1? I say this because to me, it makes quite a difference.

Compared to IE7, ie8 is slow as hell. Now it takes 3 times as long to load as firefox, whereas before ie7 loaded in half the time of ff. MS what have you done??? Also freezes for a few seconds on opening new tabs.

WTF my urls are GREY! I hate it.
I can't read my address bar.
I spent time and money making my URLs look nice.
MS is taking away the branding / feel of my site.
Does this annoy anyone else?
It's more simple for most people. Your case is most likely more rare, but that's pretty interesting, you actually managed to make URL's look nice! What's your website?

It annoys me, but im sure i'll get used to it... maybe? What annoys me, is its now sooooo slow. Takes 10 seconds to load on startup, and 7 seconds to load open the first blank tab. Anyone have any ideas? Compared to ie 7 this blows
anyone confirm that they fixed the website issues?
JeffreytGilbert, why is Safari better than Firefox? Explain...
