Microsoft has just made the updated release candidate of the Windows Live Suite wave 3 at download.live.com. Thanks to Sean Bradford for alerting us.Microsoft has updated the Messenger client to Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8050.1202) as can be seen below from the about Window:

There is no beta tag anywhere on this build as it's a near final build and Messenger plus does work with this build but not all features are usable.
Overall the UI has been enhanced in most areas with minor changes. The main improvements are the integration to Windows 7 with the new jump lists feature.
The sign in has changed slightly

The Windows 7 jump lists:

The toasts that pop up when users sign in have been updated too:

The contact list and IM windows remain largely the same:

Yes, it has updated. Try refreshing, or waiting a little. You may just be getting the old installer.

Well, you can make the pictures smaller, or make the window wider.
I can't disagree, it does look odd on tall windows though.

Tall windows? Why chat in tall windows?
MS said a while ago 8.1/8.5 would be the final version for XP x64.
No, because XP x64 is a pile of garbage.
An RC is what it implies, a release candidate. So if it stable enough, the same binary will be released as a final version.
jump lists are in windows 7
Ah, thanks!
Hmm - running it in XP SP2 Compatibility mode fixed that (brings up a UAC prompt also)

The tray icon is gone intentionally. If you watch the PDC sessions on the taskbar, in Windows 7 the taskbar entry is where persistent apps like Messenger are to be accessed. To completely exit it, just close the user tile window or right-click on the taskbar entry and click "Close All Windows."

Thankfully the custom emoticons bug is fixed in this build

You won't get new messages alerts when using tabbed chat.
Can you remove the ads?
A-Patch offers some nice customization options that you normally do not get access to. Add me to the list of those waiting for A-Patch to update.
Well, obviously not quite that much
I'm just suggesting that it may not be as much of a blocking issue for users now (though it's still useful)
Yes. It is needed.
A-Patch allows alot of things

Programs you can download include:
Messenger beta
Mail beta
Writer beta
Photo Gallery beta
Movie Maker beta
Family Safety beta
Toolbar beta
On the download.live.com page - it appears it must only be rolled out for US IPs so far? Where are you all located guys?? I'm in Ireland - no joy with that page yet, still all beta crap still
that's the link to download them directly without the web installer. Just choose which one you want to install

Thanks Shotta.
same
i dont get why things have to take so much space on the screen. most people wouldnt need widescreen monitors then
i love the minimalist approach which is why i use Miranda instead but i keep an eye on WLM in hopes they go back to simpler UI.
bloted to hell? where, the convo windows are a lot cleaner than they used to be, and you can hide everything except for the textboxes with the conversation and the one advertisement
Agreed, how is it it bloated? Because it actually has more features? Its' not bloated at all.
It's like he's not even using the same program.
Anyway, many of the elements can be hidden, like the top bar and display picture areas of the conversation window.
EDIT:WOO now online
JESUS.
Absolutely nothing , these 2 must spend too much playing in terminal...
I think all the new MS designs for Live are clean, efficient, modern and good looking.
MSN Messenger Service
I think the approval rating for that feature was worse than President Bush
Signature sounds, when someone signs in they can play a little sound clip to their contacts. Not a very good idea. :
Microsoft gave up on you.
aaahhh why!!! whyyy... my beloved sounds... my beloved moon man from YTMND sound... PROTEST!!! PETITION!!! AAAAAAAH!!!
You can still add your own audio and assign it to that user. I think you can still do that on this version.
Mainly the fact that every default theme you select becomes pixelated and looks horrible, esecially the 'Tree' scene which looks fantastic and the Windows Live online services. I don't think any of the scenes in Messenger are dynamic either :/ I expected that seeing as though they have some of the same ones as the Windows Live web services.
Finally, the biggest problem with this build: Signature sounds have been taken out
Whyyy? That was my favourite feature and a lot of fun
I see no pixelation, unless you make the windows ridiculously large. Unless you mean custom headers, in which case - get a high resolution image?
Yes, I could get my own image, but surely the default images shouldn't be pixelated? Look at the tree theme. Very pixelated. I will be updating the thread about these releases with an example tomorrow.
Other than that though it really is a very good release
I know!
How so? They look fine to me, and they're just some default suggestions (and some are animated), which is more than it had before.
I'm not getting a glow on my conversation window when there is a new message, and it seems to like having 2 windows in the Seven preview for the contact list.
Anyone else getting this?
Is not just the ads, there are to much things which I like.
Display Picture hide by default
Well and image worth more than a thousand words
Yes, you can hide the display pictures by default in chat windows. You can hide even more than in that image.
Really Thank you for your answer.
**** Mess Patch.
A-Patch is out

Works here on Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
I think that might be the same problem I'm experiencing under XP, It refuses to connect and it gives me the same error message as you, I'm also using AVG Pro. in Windows 7 however it works like a charm.
Yup. Come on A-Patch!

Why don't you stick this with all the other stoopid "OMG BLOATED" posts, so it can be criticised accordingly.
The dividers in the jump list for Windows Live Messenger look tacky. Not sure if this is the app drawing the divider or the OS itself, but it would be better if the ends of the dividers had a subtle fade, just as faded lines are all over the place in the Live applications.
Windows Live Mail still uses a tray icon. I was hoping it would get a jump list (other than recent .eml files opened) and a small indicator on the app's icon for new mail.
The emoticon bug in Messenger has been fixed, finally.
The light flare effect for conversation windows looks jagged when stretched out - compare this to the main contacts window.

Pretty sure it means they are online and available.
green = online/available
orange = away
red = busy
Tree says:
hi
Tree says:
bye
House says:
ok
lol like that. Is there an option to change it back to that?
Untick "Group sequential messages from each contact togeather"
I might try the final
Then browse to C:Program FilesCommon FilesWindows Live.cache and copy all of the .msi files to your XP x64 PC.
Run the required .msi files for the programs you want to install but remember to check which programs are needed by running wlsetup-all.exe on XP 32bit, left click once on the name of the program eg. Mail and look under "Installed with this program".
Run all of the MSI files needed (just once if needed for more than one program) and then run the application, Mail/Messenger.
To uninstall...
Browse to C:WINDOWSInstaller and find the .msi file (select a .msi file and look in the status bar for the .msi file description) for Messenger/Mail (ignore the really tiny file sizes). Right click on the .msi file and click on Un-install.
If Mail doesn't appear to work when you run it make sure you've run Contacts.msi
