A new NPD Group report shows that stand-alone Blu-ray player sales benefited greatly from the recent announcement that Warner would be going Blu-ray exclusive. The first week of January, before Warner made their announcement, there was a nearly 50-50 split between Blu-ray and HD DVD standalone players. The following week, after the announcement, Blu-ray players grabbed 93% of the market.

On the whole, December sales data showed that Blu-ray players held 60% of the standalone market, despite much cheaper players from the HD DVD camp. Looking at only the first two weeks of January, Blu-ray already has a nearly 70% market share which is sure to increase as the month continues and consumers continue to chose Blu-ray over its rival format.

it wont be over till they stop selling hd players....remeber with wars it's not over till it's over.... i seem to recall george bush saying the iraq war was
over quite a while ago now, but we all know it's not over.... but the end is near for the HD war anyways
idiot? in what way you do even know me. and you should keep lame comment to your self.
So... let hd-dvd die already
What surprises me the most is that BD standalones had the lead before warner's announcement, in spite of Toshiba's cheaper prices. Even if it was a very small lead, that DOES say something. If at $300+ vs $199+ (pre-warner), people buy comparable amounts of both formats, clearly something is wrong with HD-DVD, lol. That means that they perceive a higher value on the blu side, and if blu were more reasonably priced (ie: equally priced), blu would totally crush hd-dvd.
Prices on ebay have plummeted, glad I got in there with the sale just in time
thank you.
If HD-DVD can't lead with significantly cheaper hardware, cheaper disc manufacturing and two exclusive studios then there's not really much point trying to save it.
no thanx.
Let HD-DVD die
