AMD's goal is to reach a 30% share in the quad-core server market in 2007, sources at the company recently revealed. When AMD increased its share from 10% to 20%, the low volumes needed, made the task relatively easy to achieve, noted the sources. However, even though the step to reach 30% is proportionally greater, AMD is still confident it can achieve its aims, the sources added.

With Intel having reportedly pushed back its new quad-core server CPU schedules to late 2007 and early 2008, industry sources suggest that if AMD's plans to launch its new Quad-Core AMD Opteron (Barcelona) CPUs in the second half 2007 remain on target, the company should be in a good position to compete with Intel for market share.
