This week Kristin, Derek and Brad discuss Microsoft’s ongoing embroilment with the European Union over monopolistic practices, and the Senate considers the fairness of the way the Internet is currently run, i.e., a small number of companies have a disproportionate share of the burden of bandwidth. It’s a complicated issue and the PowerUser team calls on their listeners for suggestions.

Also, Skype may soon be available on cell phones, and Motorola proposes allowing people to use their cell phone as a credit card, prompting Kristin to throw down Revelations and run for the hills.
‘Second Life’ offers, well, a second life to its online community. Virtually everything you could wish for, even a real-world income (pun intended). Brad provides us with a belly laugh as he talks about the early days of MMO’s. Also, is Take Two going to be sold?

And finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for (drum roll) Jack Thompson gets his wish as a game developer actually makes the ultra-violent video game he proposed.

The group also takes a call from Marcus in Alaska who asks about some Vista rumors he heard. Listen now to find out if you, too, can win a free version of the PowerUser.tv home game!

Frankly, as much as I like Windows, I hope the EU sticks it to MS the way the wussy US couldn't. They ARE a monopoly, no matter how anyone seeks to deny it (fetishistic fantasy?) What do YOU gain by sucking Microsoft's cyclops? Ask yourself that. It's evil if you're an American to think MS is beyond reproach. Read your history before responding you're stupid "innovation" reponses, courtesy of Microsoft.

Well said!
I don't hate Microsoft, but the EU is 100% correct even though I don't like the political path that the EU has taken.
EU is good overall, better than the US when it comes to politics and cases such as this one.

They both sucks. I'm from Greece and i say MS sucks and EU sucks even more. EU is pathetick when it go after a company and it not talk about anything else. That is why now in europe is 87% people not happy with EU and this number only growing becose EU is stupid idea when it care about a company what they do and not people. Sorry for my bad english but ther is more important things then MS and EU stupid fight.

Great first post. this should stop idiots posting as if they work at Microsoft and are scared their going to loose some imaginary cash.

Nothing can change the fact that Microsoft killed alot of company's and alot of good software to get where it is now. Giving them slack is the first thing they wouldnt give you. (a competitor)

I am not supporting any side at the moment because i don't know the full story. and i hope people dont support any side before reading/hearing the full facts.

I'm definitely not on Microsoft's side. I just think that some of these disputes today are silly.

Microsoft's monopolistic tactics cost a lot of companies their existence. In the late 90s. I had to lay off a lot of my friends because the OS/2 market died off. And it died off not because it was too expensive (OS/2 was cheaper) or because it wasn't a good product (it supported DOS, Windows and OS/2) but due to Microsoft's monopolistic tactics.

Some people here can sit back and talk..loudly..about how Microsoft did this or that or that I'm some sort of Microsoft fanboy. But you'd be hard pressed to find someone posting here that has been more affected by Microsoft's historical monopolistic tactics than I have.

My take on it is that the EU is being a bit petty on these new issues and is singling out Microsoft for punishment. I think they're using a double standard.

OS/2 was a lousy OS, though, to be perfectly honest.
