GUI Olympics: Week 1 Results

The GUI Olympics judging has begun and the results from the first two events (week 1) are now in!

Event #1: Most Minimalistic visual style. This was for the skin that was as tight as possible but still looked cool. The winners are:

1st Place: KewK

Event #2: Best Power-User visual style. This was for the skin that didn't just look cool but had functionality that would improve your productivity. The winners are:

agreed, FM is definitely one of the better ones. i do like Opulence too. i think those two should have won for each category.

it looks like it from some of the screenshots, but i dont think themes like antares look that bad without all the pointers and windows all over the place like they do in the shots...

Opulence and FM are the only ones I like. The rest just seem too busy, or ugly in one case. But that's just my opinion.

Maybe users see the animated thingamejigs and think they need to keep up with the speed. "No, that scrolling thingy is almost at the top. I'd better make a selection now before it's too late!"

all these are rather ugly, and before you ask/flame. no i couldn't create anything better but at the the end of the day if i had to use them, i'd go back to DOS

It's in the best pseudo-OS and most usable which are upcoming events.

Some of you, btw, need to focus less on the screenshot and more on the skin. Antares, for instance, has a lot of power user features and has sub-styles with less animation. The screenshots are designed to show off the features, they're not typical of what the skin will look like by regular use.

Hmm.. Vector Cell looks good... and of the top, IMO, only Kwek, Opulence and FM really make the cut.. the rest... look too... exaggerated

Congrats to the winners. Although I never tried Kewk since I didn't feel it was that unique, it certainly is minimalistic, although I prefer MiniOS over it.
Antares is a nicely styled skin, although for me it doesn't work. It make my taskbar bigger and was just too busy for me. However I generally don't tend towards power skins so I already have one strike against this type.
