Overview
When you use Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to view a MIME type file attachment that is handled by a custom ActiveX control, it may take a long time to view the file, particularly if the file is very large. This behavior is different from what you experience in Internet Explorer 6.0 and earlier in the same scenario. Internet Explorer 6.0 and earlier versions create an instance of the ActiveX control before the file is downloaded to the cache. However, in Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1, the file is downloaded to the cache immediately -- before an instance of the ActiveX control is created. For performance reasons, this behavior is not optimal, particularly when you view large files.

In the microsoft article it states this

Date Time Version Size File name
------------------------------------------------------
19-Jun-2003 00:01 6.0.2800.1216 483,840 Urlmon.dll

but when i look at urlmon.dll my version is newer 6.0.2800.1226

I also cannot install this patch, perhaps cos we all have newer file versions than that contained in the patch?

That's the same version of Urlmon.dll that I have. (6.0.2800.1226)
#3 net-cruizer on 16 Sep 2003 - 07:26
There should be some sort of example to test if someone is experiencing the problem, and if so, then download this fix.
Personally, I have no clue what this is about, as I do not recall any problems with IE 6 sp1. So I'm not sure if I should get this fix or not, lol.

Or maybe I have it??? I have "IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633" according to my IE About box. Maybe I'll hold off and see what Windows Update says, lol.

The patch says I don't have SP1 installed.
Yet it's displayed under "About".

Ditto, same problem

Last Reviewed means the date of the last change to the article itself

The File is dated June 19th. If your URLMON.DLL file is higher than that of this patch...

DON"T INSTALL THIS.

Microsoft Files are Cummulative.

Update Versions:; SP1; Q330994; Q818529; Q822925

That's my version, and it says that I don't have SP1 installed. Anyone got an idea on how all of us can get 6.0.2800.1226..?

By installing Q822925, the last "Cumulative Patch" for IE.
Since the version number of urlmon.dll in the recently "released" patch Q818857 is lower than the urlmon.dll contained in Q822925, you're seeing the error messages while trying to install Q818857. IOW: Q818857 is an old patch, in the meantime superseded by Q822925.

I don't know why MS is trying so hard to confuse their costumers, but I'll keep trying to help users out of the patchhell: http://patch-info.de/IE/ - although it's only available in German

STOP POSTING IE ABOUT BOXES

YOUR URLMON.DLL FILE IS KEY.

Search for it, and if its higher than 6.0.2800.1216

STop complaining about this not working, you already have a newer URLMON

Move along people this patch is unecessary if you have the lastest August Cummulative Patch for IE6.

6.0.2800.1106.XPSP2.030422-1633

Just hit F1 and run windows update. If you don't need this patch it wont show.
#17 OptiPlex on 16 Sep 2003 - 20:20
If the version number doesn't match (e.g. file version on your computer is newer than the update is supposed to install, like it is supposed to install version 1216 file, but you have 1226 file), it will display the standard "version mismatch" error message which tells you it must be installed on IE6 SP1.

Just a heads up
