Those of you who frequent the rumour mill will remember reports earlier in the year that PC hardware specialists Acer were going to release a console to compete with the likes of the Xbox 360 and PS3. Of course it all turned out to be a load of BS, but even this outlandish rumour had an element of truth to it: Acer was working on a game specific machine, although it is actually a highly specialized PC and it’s a sexy looking thing!

i thought they were dying already in the PC market, good to have more competition i guess.

Anyone that thinks that's 'sexy' probably also likes Honda Civics with picnic-table sized wings on the back.

haha i read your comment and laughed... I read the article and realised i disagreed, because it does look pretty sweet. After reading this comment though i changed my mind, and I guess i would have to agree with you

You will be able to customize the innards at the time of purchase if it just doesn’t quite suit your style, but really, even the monitor shouts sex.
wow. Yep, i beleive that guy that wrote the article actually thinks having that computer/monitor would actually get him laid kinda like the guy in the fartcan civic and picnic-table sized wing

+1 totally agree with darkpuma. Looks like it should come with a riced out civic or accord.

Its a high end gaming PC with a nice case like hundreds of others. I don't see whats the link between this and the empty promise of a new console.
#3.1 darkpuma on 23 Aug 2008 - 12:45
yeah, this is a pretty crappy article.

although it is actually a highly specialized PC
how is it highly specialized? It seems to be exactly as specialized as mine and millions of others lol

Acer was working on a game specific machine
Now this is groundbreaking... oh wait, didn't alienware, and tons of other people do the same thing?
#4 zeta_immersion on 23 Aug 2008 - 01:00
hhaahhah ... i call bs from these guys .. wtf man .. those specs .. vista home ... and 8gb ram and some other crap ... give me a break man ... i goto give it to them on a nice looking colour and case but other than that you can come a LOT cheaper if you were to build it yourself, same specs about 4000-5000 (canadian) .... same as alienware ... man but nice case

tear away the bell and whistle facade, and it boils down to quality & reliability. acer has never, ever been strong in these area.

of course, most people bought gadget just for show & ego, found out the problem, then blabber all over the net.

ahhh ... modern so-called life.

I have a bits and pieces pc, and happen to own an acer tower, hasn't failed me yet. it's a T180, inside i've crammed in;

1 sata hhd, 2 ide hdds, 1 laptop hdd, dvdrw, dvdrom, hd 3870, x-fi, pci ide expansion card, 450w psu, extra case fan, arctic cooler for the cpu, new 2.6ghz x2, the whole lot stays nice and cool and hasn't overheated once.

So you basically what you are saying is your metal and plastic case with an acer logo on it cools quite efficiently when you replace all the innards...

You realize you are failing to make a point don't you?

k, if you are going to quote an article, actually quote it or paraphrase it to but the edited part in brackets. I know you did it because of profanity but at least post the article properly

Not sexy at all.
#8 +GreyWolfSC on 23 Aug 2008 - 02:08
That is pretty sexy, if by sexy you mean ugly.
#9 +Sam Symons Live on 23 Aug 2008 - 03:31
It looks very high-tech...sexy, no. Not in my opinion, at least.

It looks like someone ordered Picasso to mock up a case mod for them.

It looks like a Transformer, only it doesn't transform into anything.

#13 xiphi on 23 Aug 2008 - 12:07
Man, that case is fugly...

The case looks like it was made from the suit of the long-lost orange Power Ranger.
#14.1 BilliShere on 23 Aug 2008 - 17:28
HAHAHAHAHA!! *ROFL* soo true.
#14.2 offroadaaron on 25 Aug 2008 - 00:10
+1 to that!

Acer has saved the PC Gaming industry with this machine. Now everyone who could buy PS3, XBox360, and Wii for under $1200--and throw in a nice TV for about $800 more--are going to stop and buy an Acer for at least $4,000. High-end PCs = overpriced.

$4,000 - $8,000
wow!!!
#16.1 TheNay on 23 Aug 2008 - 22:11
And we all thought the ps3 was expensive... lol.. who would buy this when it would lose it's value within 6-12 months.
PC games change hardware requirements every friggin year. I'm not spending that much to keep up! LOL!
I'll stick to a real console. This sounds like an Alienware knockoff.

The word "garish" comes to mind. This case reminds me of why clowns just creep me out.

Seriously, if the price was $4,000 (their low end model) and it came configured with the high end model's parts they describe, it would be worth a look. However, I built a better box than this for under $2K and could probably beat that today.

Pass.

This is old news, it was posted months and months back. (On another site )
#19 lfLASHlNZl on 24 Aug 2008 - 08:00
yea, i read about this sometime ago, and if not that nice, jut got a body kit on it, YEA i know why dont they make a base line PC case, that you could put body kits on. Could be a nice thing to see.
#20 virtorio on 24 Aug 2008 - 12:14
That's one ugly son of a bitch.
#21 +Cheshire Cat on 26 Aug 2008 - 11:51
The tech. specs are really nice, but that case really is fugly
#22 ahhell on 26 Aug 2008 - 20:21
You could buy a riced out Civic for that kind of money.
Nice try Acer.
#23 Swordnyx on 31 Aug 2008 - 11:31
Eww.
#24 iron2000 on 31 Aug 2008 - 16:56
Saw this at the recent PC Show here.
Too clunky to me.
#25 RangerLG on 05 Sep 2008 - 12:40
it has a host of funky little additions, from blue LED lights all over the front to robot claw driven optical disc drives

Blue LEDs are "funky"? My Antec case has been funky for years then!
