Last night, the countdown timer on the GTA IV website finished, and with it, displayed a trailer for the next generation version of Grand Theft Auto. The Rockstargames server ground to a halt as what must have been thousands scrambled to get a first glimpse of one of computer games most popular franchises.
The one minute long trailer / teaser gave a quick glimpse at what GTA IV’s city will look like. The trailer showed what appeared to be Liberty City, but obviously, in a much more in depth manner that we are accustomed to. The trailer looks to be set in modern times, and follows a Russian as he says “I’ve killed people, smuggled people, sold people. Perhaps here, things will be different”.
The trailer can now be viewed reasonably well on the official website, with official high definition downloads available on the website too.

I personally didn't know what to expect from a next-gen GTA, but I can safely say I'm pretty excited about it now. Just have to buy a machine capable of doing it before it's released on the 16th October

definitly a large step away from the ''cartoon'' graphics of before...im kinda impressed at the detail..krazy..
City looks amazing... scenery looks amazing... if they can stitch a solid story and pack it with fun missions and solid story missions -- another GTA winner will be born
Its new york mate
Its new york mate
Liberty City was always a caricature of New York City (just like Vice City was Miami and San Andreas was Los Angeles). In GTA IV it just takes it to a more realistic level than before.
Looks great though. Glad they're taking their time with its' development.

Wrong my friend.
Liberty City is a fictional city in Rockstar Games' computer and video game series Grand Theft Auto, which is based on New York City

The Grand Theft Auto IV rendition, revealed in the game's first trailer as being much more closely modeled after New York City, with such recognizable landmarks as the Statue of Liberty, Chrysler Building, and the Empire State Building.
You're thinking of Portland Island, which is in GTA3.

Oh, I thought San Andreas was San Francisco... hence all the steep roads

Actually, San Adreas is a fictional state clearly based on California and Nevada. The game featured three main cities, Los Santos (based on Los Angeles), San Fierro (based on San Francisco), and Las Venturas (based on Los Vegas).
streamed it though and it looks great
I wonder if I'll be able to find my real house in the game
Can't wait to see this come out. Would be awesome as hell to see them put the Blu-ray space to use and create a greatly expanded game.
Oh, and the main char looks pretty interesting. Not a stupid thug as San Andreas created. I don't want to be a hip-hop uzi shootin' gansta again. :|
(apparently they didnt play gta3 which was same liberty city).

I wish these stupid ppl would stop blamming video games. Seriously, I have been playing games since I was like 6 (or whenever atari first came out) and I havn't gone out and attacked a cop or tried to kill one.
For now, it is only for PS3 and Xbox 360 but I suppose a port for Xbox/PS2 will be done and Im 99% sure a year later the PC version will come out.
