Last night, the countdown timer on the GTA IV website finished, and with it, displayed a trailer for the next generation version of Grand Theft Auto. The Rockstargames server ground to a halt as what must have been thousands scrambled to get a first glimpse of one of computer games most popular franchises.

The one minute long trailer / teaser gave a quick glimpse at what GTA IV’s city will look like. The trailer showed what appeared to be Liberty City, but obviously, in a much more in depth manner that we are accustomed to. The trailer looks to be set in modern times, and follows a Russian as he says “I’ve killed people, smuggled people, sold people. Perhaps here, things will be different”.

The trailer can now be viewed reasonably well on the official website, with official high definition downloads available on the website too.

View: GTA IV
I personally didn't know what to expect from a next-gen GTA, but I can safely say I'm pretty excited about it now. Just have to buy a machine capable of doing it before it's released on the 16th October

Nice. No more kind of cartoon like graphics. I just wonder how the physics and action will be like.

The game looks like it's going to be another technical masterpiece. I've never been a fan of the GTA series as they got really boring for me after an hour or two. I'll probably check this one out, and see if it'll renew my interest in the series.

Super graphics... but wth at Liberty City again? and a russian character... bleh! I gonna hear his russian accent jokes through the entire game

City looks amazing... scenery looks amazing... if they can stitch a solid story and pack it with fun missions and solid story missions -- another GTA winner will be born

Liberty City was always a caricature of New York City (just like Vice City was Miami and San Andreas was Los Angeles). In GTA IV it just takes it to a more realistic level than before.

Liberty City was based on Portland, not NYC.

Looks great though. Glad they're taking their time with its' development.

Wrong my friend.

Liberty City is a fictional city in Rockstar Games' computer and video game series Grand Theft Auto, which is based on New York City

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_City_...d_Theft_Auto%29

The Grand Theft Auto IV rendition, revealed in the game's first trailer as being much more closely modeled after New York City, with such recognizable landmarks as the Statue of Liberty, Chrysler Building, and the Empire State Building.

You're thinking of Portland Island, which is in GTA3.

Oh, I thought San Andreas was San Francisco... hence all the steep roads

Actually, San Adreas is a fictional state clearly based on California and Nevada. The game featured three main cities, Los Santos (based on Los Angeles), San Fierro (based on San Francisco), and Las Venturas (based on Los Vegas).

I was never really a huge GTA fan but that game looks pretty stunning.

It looks really serious, hopefully rockstar will maintain their classic humour qualities which I loved from the other games.
#9.1 nX07 on 31 Mar 2007 - 22:23
I'm sure they will, in the trailer I noticed that Cluk-in something Chicken thing we seen in GTA: SA, and one of the buildings were called "getalife" I am thinking its a spin off of "manulife" haha
#9.2 att Rep on 01 Apr 2007 - 15:59
I believe the "getalife" building is a parody of the MetLife Building in NYC
#10 peterish on 31 Mar 2007 - 13:12
alright, NYC !!!!

I wonder if I'll be able to find my real house in the game
#11 Matt500 on 31 Mar 2007 - 14:08
Im getting this for sure, must say though that the people in game still look a bit wrong, and I hope we dont get the same 20 people being repeated everywhere.
#12 gadean on 31 Mar 2007 - 15:34
wow, that trailer was impressive!!

Would've made more sense to base the game in a European city, such as London or Paris. That would've been rather interesting.
#13.1 Dakkaroth on 31 Mar 2007 - 19:17
Not necessarily. The company probably would've gotten a lot of crap for basing it on one of their cities for a GTA game.

Can't wait to see this come out. Would be awesome as hell to see them put the Blu-ray space to use and create a greatly expanded game.

Oh, and the main char looks pretty interesting. Not a stupid thug as San Andreas created. I don't want to be a hip-hop uzi shootin' gansta again. :|

I wish these stupid ppl would stop blamming video games. Seriously, I have been playing games since I was like 6 (or whenever atari first came out) and I havn't gone out and attacked a cop or tried to kill one.

For now, it is only for PS3 and Xbox 360 but I suppose a port for Xbox/PS2 will be done and Im 99% sure a year later the PC version will come out.
