Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix interactive entertainment products in North America, today announced that "Chains of Promathia," the expansion to the award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) FINAL FANTASY XI, ships to retailers today. With a combined community in Japan and North America of more than 500,000 players, and the recent September 17 launch for regions in Europe, FINAL FANTASY XI brings gamers together from around the world in this ever-expanding adventure.

The first cross-platform, cross-continent MMORPG, FINAL FANTASY XI allows gamers to connect to the same exact world regardless of whether they are playing on a personal computer (PC) or PlayStation 2 and whether they are playing in North America, Europe, Oceania, or Japan.

Do you believe Valve licensing their engine should continue? Or should HL:2 Engine stay with Valve only...

Didnt it ship to retailers yesturday? I appreciate that there was some hurricane malarky keeping east coasters from getting the game on time, but I was under the impression that people could buy it from yesturday depending on obviously their distance from suppliers?

Meh, dunno, Ive got my copy coming via import on Friday, and have already got the full EU version ^_^

Im looking forward to the new areas.

for you FFXI players out there, i have a question.

my siblings bought it for me as a bday present... but i wasn't able to play it due to university workload (yeah i know, as sad as that sounds, last term had me spend 40-60 hours straight in unix labs, it wasn't an option)

i'm finally getting my new PC shipped this week and am going to restart it (now that i'm on a work term)... i'm just curious does the expansion bring a new world or something? like should i buy the expansion and start from there? or it doesnt matter...?

the expansions bring new areas and job classes and of course quests.
Rise of The Zilart gives you new job classes and areas.
Chains of Promathia just has new areas.
They just extend on to the current FFXI world. So its up to you if you want the expansions as you can still play the game without them.

I used to play ffxi and have 3 things about FFXI. From what I remember, you won't be able to do much with the expansion until you have leveled up significantly. Secondly, you won't level up significantly unless you devote an aweful amount of time doing repetitive grinding. Third, if you're already busy in Uni, you'll kill off your social life if you want to get anywhere with FFXI. I don't recommend it.

Final Fantasy are great games but this online one stinks, I played it for 4 months to give it a good shot and it was bad. In a nut shell if you like Final Fantasy before online play then stay away from this cause online play is blaaa.. waste of time and money...

Um - OK, I can only presume you didnt put enough effort in, this game is pure gold.

Agreed. There is so much to do in the game other then just leveling up your charachter. I have been playing the game for a good 3-4 months and have barely scratched the surface.

the game is just bad, the programming is the worst i've seen in a FF game. I have talked with many who work at the company and they all have said the samething that they try and fix things as soon as they can but in the mean time I was dishing out money each month to play a game that just went no where. I leveled my character I went all over the place joining groups and in the end it was pointless.

Haha it's so true. There were a bunch of things about this game that peeved me off. The fact that it took so darn long to level up was one of them, and the fact that you could level DOWN. That made me right mad. And also, it takes forever to get anyplace. I played for about 3 months, and I tell yah, it WAS like a full time job. I stayed up many a night trying to play that game. I think the highest level I ended up with was 16... blah.

Very true. I'm cancelling in a few days, the game has it's moments but overall it's just not worth the incredible amount of time and commitment it asks you for. That and my fiance ran off with someone on FFXI... so it's safe to say that FFXI experience has been soured for me.

Quick question. With the new ps2 coming out in Oct, is it going to support or allow anyone to play FFXI . Since FFXI does utilize the HD feature.
